A MESSAGE FROM JOHN A. WEER

President’s Message

john weer

It is my honor to serve as the 2026-2027 president of the Pennsylvania Association of Arson Investigators (PAAI). With all my years of involvement in this organization, I have learned there are many professional members that are dedicated to the standards and evolutions of fire investigation, while keeping up with and providing the necessary education through our conferences and training seminars.

First, I would like to thank our past leadership for forging a path of excellence, commitment, and higher standards to the future of our organization. Because of their leadership and guidance, we have overcome and adapted to the continued changes with fire investigations. Through this, our association has demonstrated a commitment to the science and professionalism expected from our line of work.

Second, I want to thank our current elected officers and members of various committees. We will take on numerous projects in the coming months, and I know with your dedication we will complete these to provide better benefits to our current and future members. As we work towards providing a more user-friendly web site, we will be able to better support future fire investigators in this profession. We will continue to offer leading edge training and education, seek support from sponsors, and prepare for our 50th anniversary. Together, we will provide a strong foundation for future generations in the fire investigation profession and this organization.

Finally, to our membership, we have listened to many of you, and I hope that you have witnessed that we are committed to the changes that you have suggested. In 2025 under Past President Mike Durshell we moved our annual conference and annual “Jack Christmas” training to the Penn Stater Hotel. Feedback has taught us this was a well- received change. We are hopeful this change of venue will allow us to increase our attendance and allow us to continue offering the great training we have had in the past. Your attendance at this organization’s training is your way of showing support. I encourage and challenge you to get involved with this great organization. It is more than just a placeholder on your resume.

Again, I thank the PAAI for your trust in me to work on your behalf, and to continue the Atradition of dedication and leadership in the future.
